Is your hair unmanageable and prone to itching? Extensive use of chemical products, exposure to extreme climatic conditions, and improper diet can lead to itchiness and a dry scalp. 99% of the time dry scalp is not dry skin but it is dandruff instead.
You get a dry scalp when your skin has too little moisture. The skin on your scalp becomes irritated and flakes off. If your scalp is dry, the skin on other parts of your body, like your arms and legs, could be dry, too.
People with dry skin are more prone to dry scalp. This means that many of the things that cause dry skin can also cause a dry scalp including dry air, particularly during the winter months, excessive washing skin conditions, such as eczema.
One way to tell the difference between dry scalp and flakes from dandruff is by their appearance.
Dandruff is caused due to a dry scalp.
In dandruff the skin is oily and the flakes are largely white or yellow in color. In the dry scalp, the skin is dry and the flakes are small. In both cases, we have an itchy scalp.
In dandruff, the skin becomes red, oily, and scaly whereas, in the dry scalp, we have dry skin on the other parts of the body.
