1. Krampusnacht

Krampusnacht, or Krampus Night, is a festival dating back hundreds of years across Europe, with a large concentration of them taking place in Germany. St. Nicholas Day, or Saint Nicholas Feast, is on Dec. 6, marking the anniversary of Saint Nicholas’s death. Centuries ago, people all over the world, but particularly in Europe, celebrated Saint Nicholas Day on December 6 and Saint Nicholas Eve on December 5, with little gifts given in the spirit of St. Nicholas, the merciful bishop (St. Nicholas, if you are in Germany).

Americans who celebrate St. Nicholas Day usually also observe Christmas Day (Dec. 25) as a separate holiday.
